Auroras on Alpha Centauri

· Dr Soukkou Youcef

‘Alpha Centauri and Beta Centauri’

I once walked on the moon.
It was a silent walk.
I could only hear the blood rushing in my ears,
a quiet symphony of life against the void.
I looked up at the endless black,
crowned by a radiant blue orb.
I saw our thin atmosphere,
a fragile veil holding everything we know.
To many, it seems infinite,
but to me,
it occupied half my visual field.
Everything was there,
On that tiny stage
Lost hopes, distant dreams,
Tears and laughter,
And how raw love feels.
All the drama, all the rebellions,
All the fragile egos.
Fragile, I dare say,
Because the cosmos does not care, my dear.
It sits majestically, praising its Creator’s might.

I think I understand how the first cosmonaut must’ve felt.
This moment, this now,
It is everything.
I wish we could sail to the stars, Lilac.
Beloved among the stars,
Your warmth would bring belonging to the cold expanse.

Will you come?
We could stop for lunch on Alpha Centauri;
Don’t say no.

We could watch twin sunsets in a binary system,
Or walk on emerald plains beneath aquamarine skies.
We could dance under shimmering green Auroras, or pink,
Whatever you pick.
Maybe we’d slay a dragon,
What do you think?
And since this worldly life is but amusement and diversion,
Perhaps we could kiss through our souls,
And create another soul together.
